The paperback edition of Mitch Albom’s FOR ONE MORE DAY to be released Tuesday, April 1.

Millions of readers worldwide have read and explored the question: “What would I do if I had one more day with a loved one I’d lost?” Albom’s second novel, FOR ONE MORE DAY centers on Charley "Chick" Benetto, who, as a child, is forced to choose between being a mama’s boy or a daddy’s boy. His parents split up, and their divorce leaves him angry and yearning. He vows when he grows up, he will do things better. But he doesn’t. His own d reams wither. Alcoholism separates him from those he loves most. On the night he decides to end it all, a reckless drive back to his boyhood home becomes a journey unlike any other.

FOR ONE MORE DAY meshes Albom's gift for humanizing the lessons gleaned from loss with his keen eye for family dynamics. Posey Bennetto, the mother who returns for one mysterious day, is Albom’s first major female character, and his richest depiction to date. Through her struggles as the town’s only divorcee in the 1960’s, Albom examines the damage done to parents and children when families implode. And the book richly explores the often overlooked relationship between mother and son.

The hardcover edition of FOR ONE MORE DAY debuted at No.1 on the New York Times Bestseller List and spent nine months on the list. It also reached the number one spot on USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. In October 2006, Albom’s book was the first book chosen by Starbucks in the newly launched Book Break Program. On December 9, 2007, the ABC Television Network, Harpo Films and Mitch Albom re-teamed for the 2-hour television event motion picture "Oprah Winfrey Presents: Mitch Albom’s For One More Day" which starred Michael Imperioli and Ellen Burstyn.

Oprah Winfrey and Mitch Albom Will Reunite for the Television Event Motion Picture of "For One More Day" to Air in December

The ABC Television Network, Harpo Films and Mitch Albom will re-team for the 2-hour television event motion picture “Oprah Winfrey Presents: Mitch Albom’s For One More Day” based on Albom’s book, For One More Day. The Hyperion book debuted at #1 on The New York Times bestsellers list and has spent nine weeks in that position, and five straight months at or near the top. With 4 million copies in print, it was named both the bestselling hardcover novel and bestselling new book of 2006.

Harpo Films will produce the film under its “Oprah Winfrey Presents” banner for ABC. Principal photography is scheduled for July; the program will air in December 2007. Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte are executive producers. Mitch Albom is writing the teleplay and will also serve as an executive producer. Lloyd Kramer (“Mitch Albom’s Five People You Meet in Heaven”) will direct.

The project tells the story of a broken-down, former baseball player who has collapsed into alcoholism and despair. He returns one night to his small hometown with plans to take his life. At the final moment, he is magically granted one more day with his departed mother, who illuminates the secrets of both their lives, and shows him a way to redemption.

Their previous collaboration, “Tuesdays With Morrie," yielded four Emmy wins, including for Outstanding Made-For-Television Movie and Outstanding Lead Actor In A Mini-Series or Movie. “Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte did a wonderful job with the movie of ‘Tuesdays With Morrie,’ and it is an honor to be working with them again,” said Albom. “They tell beautiful stories with their films, so I know For One More Day is in very good hands.”

This is the 7th telefilm on ABC for the “Oprah Winfrey Presents” franchise. The most recent outing, “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” starring Halle Berry, was the most-watched telefilm on any network since 1999, with almost 25 million viewers. Albom's "Five People" was the most-watched TV film of 2003 with nearly 22 million viewers.
